The paper describes a hyphen – one of the punctuation marks, which encourages the professionals, who are responsible for the standardization of Polish spelling, to discuss it. Its shape and manner of embedding in a text (with or without a space), and its functions are explained in 93 principle. Principles of spelling and punctuation. A place od hyphen in a sentence can be conditioned both by syntax and prosody. A hyphen can also play an important role in the specification of meaning.
