This article aims to report a case of large laceration with great loss of skin at the dorsal medial portion of the right pelvic member, with partial exposure of the metatarsal and the long extensor tendon of the fingers in a mare of Quarter Horses 8 months of age. It was prescribed a treatment based on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory, and healing on alternate days through tranquilization with detomidine. The initial contamination associated with the size and magnitude of the injury, contributed to delayed wound healing for 170 days, and repeated and prolonged use of detomidine did not cause cardiovascular changes at the patient.
