A group of adolescents of various age and sex was asked to rank, in order of importance, eighteen relevant paternal features. The results have shown that girls of younger age are more homogenous than boys in their evaluation, but also that the rale of homogeneousness risnes with age in both sexes. Both, similarities and differences between the two Sexes are noticeable in the evaluation of a number of features. The girls of all ages prefer the expressive role of the father, whereas boys combine expressive and Instrumental roles. The article shows a critical attitude towards Parsons’ conception of the expressive role of the mother and the instrumental role of the father. At the same time it gives a comparison between the results of the research and those obtained by the adolescents in France.
