This article ponders Tracy Rone's assertion that field trips offer an immediate and compelling methodology for understanding our pasts and our relationships to those histories. It examines the way taking students to historic sites in diverse learning communities can facilitate what Rone calls “an intensive, experiential history lesson” and can give students deeper understandings of history and lasting access to their own learning.
