Occupational case studies provide comparative data for studying the structure of work. In the case presented here, an occupational grouping which staked out its own jurisdiction provides a limiting case for the study of collective solutions to risk and uncertainty encountered in work. How a gynecological self‐help clinic organized work to protect individual workers from risk and its consequences shows that relationships among work, uncertainty, and risk are indeed flexible.
