This article examines both the form and function of codeswitching in the Mexican and the Spanish press. Codeswitching is found to be more complex both syntactically and functionally in the Mexican press than in the Spanish press. The explanation offered for this finding is based on (1) the greater contact that Mexico has had with an anglophone community and (2) the different nature of that contact.
