In the wake of the recent shift in the "nature‐nurture" debate as evidenced in Neurons to Neighborhoods, we examine and critique how context, culture, and development are currently construed in human development research. We go on to argue for a sociohistorical approach to development that incorporates multiple positional perspectives, micro‐ and macrohistorical processes, and globalization processes, thus positing a more holistic and realistic understanding of human development.
