This article examines Russian "emotional ideology" as reflected in the Russian language, and especially in the Russian collocational system. Colloquial collocations involving the human body, seen as an organ of emotional expression, are the focus for comparing folk models of the body and emotion in Russian and Anglo cultures. A theory of "cultural scripts" forms the basis of generalizations from the linguistic evidence.
