The 1999 SUNTA Anthony Leeds Prize in Urban Anthropology awarded to Roger Sanjek for The Future of Us All: Race and Neighborhood Politics in New York City (1998). Leeds' theoretic cal writings were especially important to this book and to this author, who edited a collection of Leeds' essays, Cities, Classes and the Social Order (1994). Foremost for Sanjek among Leeds' urban anthropological concepts were his grounding of social analysis in observable events, his conception of interlocking social orders (from local to global),his operational approach to the components of power (resources, organization, numbers), and his insistence on fusing ethnography, comparative theory, and historical and political‐economic contextualization.
