This article provides an overview of the “offshoring” of service work from developed to developing nations. The focus is primarily on services offshoring from the United States. The discussion includes consideration of the meaning of the term “offshoring,” how many jobs are currently involved, what kinds of jobs they are, and where they are going. The article also discusses the reasons for the offshoring trend, projections about its future, and a brief summary of the possible consequences of its growth.
