Born into an Episcopalian family where people cultivated intimate and intense relationships with God, I have been exploring the popular Afro‐Cuban religion Santería with both an intellectual and religious interest since 1987. This true story is adapted from Living Santería: Rituals and Experiences in an Afro‐Cuban Religion , published bythe Smithsonian Institution Press in 2002.
