Public reactions to the terrorist acts of September 11 included a range of responses from shock, fear, and anger, to group profiling, acts of violent retribution, and dichotomous “us” and “them” thinking. The cycle of terrorism requires perspective and reflection so that educational anthropologists can act in ways that lead to more useful understandings of the phenomenon and tragedy of terrorism within society‐at‐large.
