This commentary summarizes and reflects on the articles in this theme issue, in terms of three themes: (1) macro‐micro relations, (2) the politics of representation, and (3) the role of schooling in social improvement. The articles suggest that a central task for anthropological research is to examine the processes by which truth is constructed in the political economy, science, and everyday life.
