Building upon previous research concerning mathematics practice in everyday situations, this article studies the mathematical concepts and processes used in carpet laying. Mathematics practice in carpet laying is characterized through a discussion of the mathematics used by carpet layers in estimation and installation activities, in an effort to describe and detail how people actively give meaning to and use mathematics in the midst of ongoing activities in relevant settings.
