Starting with Bandura's 1979 formulation regarding the relationship between aversive experience and aggression, this paper asks the logically prior question—what are the cultural influences that lead attitudes or actions to be experienced as aversive? The focus is on aggression among junior high school students. The community culture of a middle‐class suburb is identified as a significant contributor to the aggression found among these students.
