The term “educational ethnology” is useful to suggest the nature of a truly anthropological approach to schools. Such an approach would engage in research that was cumulative with regard to individual schools; comparative with regard to the similarities and differences among schools; cooperative in the mutual participation in research of anthropologists and members of the group (schools) studied. Such an approach might remedy serious limitations of much educational research.
