Individual behavior can be analyzed in terms of utility maximization. In some cases the utility function might consist of profits, while in others the function is more complex and requires a clear understanding of the cultural factors affecting the perception of utility. This paper tries to determine the utility function among Welsh farmers in the Lower Chubut Valley, Argentina. Although the subsistence level of Welsh agriculture inhibits growth and diversification, it also produces attitudes and strategies for maximizing security.
