Data from seventeenth‐century documents on the Iroquoian‐speaking Hurons indicates that their sociopolitical organization was virtually identical to that of the ethno‐graphically better‐known Iroquois. The Hurons had a tribal and a clan organization both of which systems resembled the comparable Iroquois ones in the specific details known.
