An Investigation of Climate Loads on Building Façades for Selected Locations in the United States

This research analyzed hourly United States weather data to determine wind-driven rain loads for assessing the ability of wall systems to resist water intrusion. Rainfall and wind-driven rain values were developed for Boston, Miami, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and Seattle. The work also produced a methodology for generating rates of water spray impinging on and pressure differences acting across test wall assemblies. The methodology can also be used by designers to: (i) determine the response of a wall assembly to wind-driven rain; (ii) estimate design loads below which adverse effects on an assembly are minimized; (iii) assess the likelihood and degree of damage to an assembly when design loads are exceeded; and, (iv) estimate the long-term performance of a wall assembly based on it?s water-tightness and moisture management.Dans le cadre de cette recherche, nous analysons des donn\ue9es m\ue9t\ue9orologiques horaires provenant des \uc9tats-Unis dans le but de d\ue9terminer les charges de pluie fouett\ue9e par le vent aux fins de l?\ue9valuation de la r\ue9sistance \ue0 l?infiltration d?eau des murs. Les valeurs de pluviosit\ue9 et de pluie fouett\ue9e par le vent ont \ue9t\ue9 d\ue9velopp\ue9es pour les villes de Boston, de Miami, de Minneapolis, de Philadelphie et de Seattle. Ces travaux ont en outre d\ue9bouch\ue9 sur une m\ue9thodologie permettant de g\ue9n\ue9rer des cadences de pr\ue9cipitation de jets d?eau sur les murs d?essai, ainsi que des valeurs de diff\ue9rence de pression agissant de part et d?autre de ceux-ci.
