Resumen: A través de los conflictos surgidos en la sociedad sanjuanera con motivo del nombramiento de un recién llegado nuevo intendente interino de la isla, este trabajo pretende acercarse a la realidad cotidiana de las prácticas políticas y económicas de Puerto Rico en una época no lo suficientemente bien estudiada de su historia. Unas décadas antes de que comenzara la expansión de la agricultura comercial por suelo puertorriqueño y cuando todavía aquél era un enclave marginal y deficitario, aquella sociedad vivía en plena efervescencia, con sus élites dispuestas y en constante conflicto por acaparar riqueza y poder. Abstract. Through out the conflicts in the San Juan society on the occasion of the appointment of a newcomer as new interim intendant of theis land, this paper aims to approach the every day reality of the political and economic practices of Puerto Rico in a time not well enough studied history. Decades before the start of the expansion of commercial agriculture by Puerto Ricansoil and when that was still a marginal and deficient enclave, that society was in full swing, with its elites willing and constant fight to monopolize wealth and power.
