This article presents the issue of synonymy in dialects. The phenomenon is viewed in a context of contemporary dialectal lexicographic descriptions and the abounding material excerpted from a corpus of a dialect spoken in a single village in Wielkopolska (Bukówiec Górny, Leszno county). If we agree that synonymy is a stylistic phenomenon, c h o i c e gains in importance as the prerequisite for a synonymic relation. The presented analyses indicate that a proper synonymic relation in dialects occurs only on the level of idiolects.
