The article proposes a conceptual differentiation of the attitudes of a conformist and a non-conformist, presents a survey of various meanings attributed to the two terms in sociological literature – historical and contemporary – and discusses definitions found in it. The author argues, through concrete examples, that conformism should be considered as an attitude based on a relation between an individual and a group with its norms, values, and even typical qualities.
