March 13, 2022 marked the 120th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Petrovich Gryaznov (1902–1984), an outstanding Russian scientist, researcher of archaeological sites of Southern Siberia, Doctor of Historical Sciences, keeper of the State Hermitage Museum, laureate of the USSR State Prize. From 1937 to 1951 M.P. Gryaznov was the curator of the collections of the State Hermitage, and this museum contains materials from the excavations of his expeditions. Mikhail Petrovich was one of the scientists whose works are distinguished by a bright and unique research talent. He was a master of extracting maximum scientific information from every ancient thing and site. These qualities gave him the opportunity to reconstruct the history of the ancient population of Siberia in completely new aspects and with such details that seemingly were not available to archaeology. The combination of breadth of scientific interests with spiritual generosity allowed M.P. Gryaznov to expand the traditional limits of archaeology and had a fruitful impact on all who came into contact with him.
