RESUMEN: El autor destaca la dificultad existente a la hora de establecer tipologías en las que puedan encuadrarse los actuales sistemas democráticos latinoamericanos. Las elecciones realizadas durante la década de los años 80 han probado que se trata de sistemas que funcionan correctamente desde el punto de vista formal, aunque tienen serias dificultades para resolver problemas que afectan a su eficacia y que por consiguiente lastran su consolidación.ABSTRACT: The author emphasizes the difficulties existing when trying to establish typologies in which we could frame the current latinoamerican democratic systems. The elections celebrated during the eighties proved that fi-om the formal point of view, these systems functioned correctly, although they suffered from serious difficulties to solve problems of eficacy and then they make not verv easy their consolidación.
