This issue of the JBMR marks the completion of the transition to the new editorial team. I am pleased to report that our emeritus editor, John Eisman, has left the journal in very good health. We will continue the journal’s long tradition of rapidly publishing the top papers in basic, clinical, and translational research in the field of bone and mineral metabolism. The JBMR’s impact factor is a robust 6.635, placing it highest among all bone journals. The average turnaround time, determined from original submission date to initial decision, is now only 26 business days. Our circulation is penetrating new readership markets, and reprint revenues continue to be strong. This is certainly good news, but I believe that we can do even better. Consequently, our team has rolled out several new features that should add even more impact and appeal to the JBMR. I hope you noticed our new cover, which will feature original artwork contributed by our readers. Beginning with this issue, we also launch a Special Features section that will regularly comprise two elements: Mini-Perspectives and Commentaries. Mini-Perspectives will consist of invited reviews on topics we consider to be of great general interest to basic, clinical, and translational investigators in bone and related disciplines. Commentaries will continue the JBMR’s tradition of highlighting papers in the issue that should not be missed. The first Special Features will report on new developments in vitamin D research, a field that has been revitalized by several exciting discoveries. The JBMR website will be further developed as a focal point for access to the Journal’s content as well as information, dialogue, and debate on issues of importance to its readers. I also want to take this opportunity to thank a number of people who have made my transition to Editor-in-Chief seamless and a pleasure. First, I am grateful to Dave Allen and the Durham staff who have been extraordinarily helpful and supportive. In addition, I want to thank my team of Associate Editors who have been exceptionally quick learners. Finally, my sincere appreciation goes to Drs John Bilezikian and Xu Cao, my Senior Associate Editors and my closest advisors in this venture, whose help has been invaluable. It is indeed an exhilarating experience to oversee the JBMR, the premier bone journal in the world and a scientific flagship of ASBMR. As always, I welcome your comments on how we can further improve the Journal and its publication process.
