Los planos urbanos del Cuerpo de Estado Mayor del Ejército, 1865-1900.

Urban surveys carried out in Spain by cartographers of the General Staff during the last decades of the nineteenth century are studied. Our aim is to present a set of documents, mostly unpublished, of a considerable value for the study of the Spanish cities in a time of deep urban transformations. We describe the surveying instruments and the survey system, and bring a synthesis over the genesis of this documentation which is kept at the map archive of the “Centro Geográfico del Ejército” (Army Geographical Service, Madrid).
