The article focuses on the analysis of the category of emotional intelligence in the psychological and pedagogical literature. The correlation between the intellectual and emotional-volitional spheres of personality, which is a prerequisite for successful human life, has been proved. It is established that the category of «emotional intelligence» is considered through the prism of such concepts as: generalized experience, emotional imagination, reasonableness of feelings, emotional culture, emotional intelligence, etc. It has been found that foreign psychologists define emotional intelligence as the ability to adequately perceive, evaluate, and express emotions; the ability to generate feelings when they promote thinking; understand emotions and knowledge about emotions, as well as the ability to regulate emotions to promote their own emotional and intellectual growth.
