Primary syphilis of the tonsil is presented in four cases where darkfield examination of a suspected chancre was positiye. All subjects admitted to recent oral sexual contact. Serological tests confirmed the diagnosis in three of the cases. The importance of confirming the diagnosis prior to informing the patient of the diagnosis and starting treatment is discussed in this paper.
