Infratemporal abscess is an unusual complication of maxillary sinus fracture. It can occur several years after the initial injury. Two case histories are presented in detail. The venous connections and the pathways of spread of infections, as well as the pathophysiology of osteomyelitis, are discussed. Treatment cf bony infection is wide removal of all necrotic tissue including a small amount of normal tissue.
