An earlier monkey experiment, in which half the animals received short and long‐acting corticosteroids following stapedectomy, encouraged the author to conduct a study on human patients, in an effort to alleviate serous labyrinthitis. The results show that the group receiving steroids fared less well than the control group. From this study, it is concluded that long‐acting corticosteroids are contraindicated in patients undergoing stapedectomy.
