During the past year, two patients suffering from xerophthalmia were treated by transposition of Stensen's duct into the inferior conjunctival fornix. The case history of one patient is reviewed and the operative technique as well as a modification which allows for a simultaneous reconstruction of an obliterated fornix are described. Profuse lacrimal epiphora appeared and a suggestion is made to evaluate the functional capacity of the parotid gland pre‐operatively with the help of scintigrams. If necessary, partial or subtotal excision of the parotid gland may be done in conjunction with the transposition procedure. Attention is drawn to possible analogy between aural and ocular lubricant systems.
