Auditory evoked responses recorded from central scalp electrodes referred to both ear and nasopharyngeal electrodes, were compared to those recorded from the commonly employed vertex to ear derivation. Consistent responses were recorded from both the central to ear and central to nasopharyngeal combinations which were morphologically quite similar to those from the vertex to ear combination. Minimal responses of prolonged latency were seen in ear to nasopharyngeal derivations.
