Abstract Percutaneous electrocoagulation of the trigeminal nerve, a new approach to the surgical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia promises a satisfactory method for achieving longstanding relief avoiding many of the objectionable side effects associated with other forms of surgical therapy. Careful control of electrical currents permits destruction of the sensory portion of the trigeminal nerve sufficient to relieve pain yet spare touch and motor function in the face. The rational, technique and results associated with the procedure in a substantial series of cases are presented in this report.
