Allergic rhinitis is among the atopic allergic diseases. Sera from patients with atopic disease possess reaginic antibodies that are positive Prausnitz‐Kiistner reaction substances. Recently, a new immunoglobulin class — IgE — was discovered, in which the reaginic antibodies are present in high concentration. The chemical structure and biologic properties of this new immunoglobulin are described, and further investigative efforts for IgE were proposed to clarify the defense mechanism of IgE.
