This report describes the development of the science of histochemistry as it relates to the salivary glands. Using standard histochemical techniques, seven salivary glands were studied in detail, demonstrating the variety of secretory products produced by these glands and the multi‐potential shared by both the secreting cells and the ductal epithelium.
