favourably recommending Dr. Barr's book to the notice of the profession, and we feel certain that it will be found to meet the requirements of those for whom it is intended. In order to keep pace with the increased development during recent years in this department of surgery, the second edition, which we would have welcomed earlier, has been entirely revised and extensively rewritten ; and in carrying this out, the author has, in addition to bringing his facts up to date, improved the style of the volume, and taken great pains to make it as attractive as possible to the reader. If we turn to a detailed analysis of the various chapters, we find that the methods of examining the ear are first fully dealt with. A chapter has been added in this edition on general symptomatology, and there is also a separate chapter devoted to treatment. The former has
