In this paper a new text of Cervantes’s famous sonnet “Voto a Dios” is established, based on the recension of all the known copies of it. By the analysis of these variants, the article suggests an explanation of why this sonnet remained anonymous until well on into XVIIIth century and likewise it proposes a different interpretation of his own statement of authorship in Viaje del Parnaso IV 38: “Por honra principal de mis escritos”.
