The criticality of filtration in day- to-day life is most often taken for granted as the processes of filtration is shrouded in mystery, in spite of the fact that this technology has been used in one form or the other for more than 100 years. It is the purpose of this article to present the theoretical principles dealing with the technology, types of filters and the principles of blocking of filters.
