The typification of the name Pinus canariensis (Pinaceae) is revised. This name was initially “lectotypified” from a specimen collected by Christen Smith and kept in the herbarium of the University of Copenhagen (C). However, this designation is ineffective, and should be rejected, because two specimens (syntypes) are cited in the protologue by Candolle, collected by Broussonet. Accordingly, the name is lectotypified using a Broussonet’s specimen collected in Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain) and preserved in the Candolle Herbarium (GDC).
