Lectotypification of the name Arthrostachya coarctata , basionym of Gaudinia coarctata , an Azorean endemic (Poaceae)

The discovery of original material of Arthrostachya coarctata (≡ Gaudinia coarctata ) permits the lectotypification of this name. The illegitimate Avena geminiflora , a later homotypic synonym of G. coarctata , has been misapplied to the species properly known as G. valdesii. Gaudinia coarctata , a threatened endemic restricted to the Azores Islands, is taxonomically close to G. fragilis .
