An experimental workshop on obtaining and processing nettle fibre was held on the island of Vormsi (on the western coast of Estonia) in July 2012. Fibre was separated by raw processing during the workshop. The author describes how nettle stems are stripped, peeled and boiled in a lye solution, as well as carding and spinning methods (spinning instructor: Monika Plaser). The workshop also included making a nettle bark rope and dyeing wool with nettle leaves. Sample patches were made of yarn the participants had made themselves, using the wquipment provided.
