A bstract : The present study investigates the expression of IGF‐I in the early developing tilapia ( Oreochromis niloticus ). IGF‐I was detected very early in ontogeny (4‐5 days postfertilization, DPF), first in liver and in organs involved in growth and metabolism, thus suggesting a high physiological impact of IGF‐I in growth, metabolism, and organogenesis.
