A bstract : The Division of Cancer Prevention of the National Cancer Institute sponsored and organized the Applications of Bioinformatics in Cancer Detection Workshop on August 6‐7, 2002. The goal of the workshop was to evaluate the state of the science of bioinformatics and determine how it may be used to assist early cancer detection, risk identification, risk assessment, and risk reduction. This paper summarizes the proceedings of this conference and points out future directions for research.
