The participation by farm women in on‐farm and off‐farm work is estimated. In addition, data on the effects of female earnings in agriculture upon farm family income and the variability in farm family income are presented and assessed. It is shown that farm women contribute significantly and substantially to farm family income. Also, it is demonstrated that farm women appear to play an important role in helping farm families manage income instability.
