The daily nutrient intakes of 473 women from seven states were examined and evaluated on the basis of the percentage of women below 66.9 percent of the 1974 Recommended Dietary Allowances. Also the association between the diet quality of the women (based on their nutrient intakes) and several socio‐demographic and social‐psychological variables was ex amined. Analysis of the data reveals the following results: 1) Twenty‐one percent of the respondents were below 66.9 percent RDA for calcium and 37 percent were below 66.9 percent RDA for iron. These were the only serious nutrition deficiences found. 2) Age of the main food preparer, total family income, education of the women, occupation of the head of the household, value orientations, and family goal orientations resulted in correlations with dietary adequacy that distinguished older and younger respondents from middle‐aged respondents.
