This research investigated some associations between exploratory task behavior and creativity in kindergarten and second grade students. For each grade a short series of specially selected, individually administered exploratory and creativity tasks were presented. Data were collected from 129 boys and girls. Among kindergarten children of both sexes, the exploratory and creativity measures were positively and significantly correlated. However, a different pattern of correlations was observed among. second grade students. Particularly among males, correlations were sharply lower than for the younger children indicating that early established exploration‐creativity relationships may not hold over time. Two possible explanations for these findings include developmental differences and children's exposure to structured learning environments in more advanced grades.
