As the time when Hong Kong will revert to Chinese sovereignty draws nearer, it becomes an increasingly difficult place in which to practice HRM. Recent political, economic and social changes are discussed, and it is argued that HR managers can no longer rely on having a committed workforce, an adequate supply of talent, an accepted employment relationship, and reliable economic and political conditions A recent staff development workshop is described, to show how HR managers in Hong Kong view their responsibilities and are attempting to cope with their turbulent environment.
