The recent industrial action by the Storemen and Packers Union against a number of employers, seeking the agreement of those employers to contribute to the recently established Union Fund, has created widespread interest. Until quite recently there has been little interest or activity on the part of the union movement in superannuation. However, the message for all employers seems loud and clear. Until now employers generally have set their own pace in providing superannuation for employees but this now seems likely to change.
