When obese patients are offered weight‐reduction plans, the option of weight‐reduction surgery is often not proposed. This may be due to the lack of knowledge on the part of the counseling health care professional. This teaching case provides one patient's experience with a weight‐reduction surgical procedure and how she came to learn about this option.
