Phosphate sorption by binary mixtures of bayerite and amorphous Al oxide has been studied at pH values of 6, 7 and 8.5 as a function of phosphate concentration and mixture composition. By application of the thermodynamic method of partial quantities, the apparent and partial specific sorption of phosphate by each component in the mixture has been calculated. It was found that sorption increased as the proportion of oxide increased in the mixtures, while the apparent and partial quantities of the oxide increased as the amount of oxide decreased at constant bayerite, pH and phosphate concentration.
